Congratulations to Bret Harte Students of the Month for February, Nina Hollars and Jamee Zahniser, who were honored at the Angels-Murphys Rotary Luncheon on Thursday, February 15. The following information was shared about Nina and Jamee.

Nina Hollars: “Nina is a service-oriented individual who shuns the spotlight, but were she absent, it would be somehow quietly known. Nina has filled her plate with a wide range of honors courses, working equally well as a team member or solo. She represents the Bullfrogs playing basketball, tennis, cross-country, and track. Within the community, Nina donates her time and piano skills playing for rest homes, school musicals, and her church. Her clubs and organizations include California Scholastic Federation, Circle of Friends, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Leadership. Nina plans to attend Sonoma State where she will make the wonderful combination of majoring in paleontology and minoring in music. Her career will be to study dinosaurs, and such but will always make room for music on the side.”

Jamee Zahniser: “Jamee is no stranger [to] presentations before large audiences, as demonstrated when she directs rallies at Bret Harte in front her peers. Jamee belongs to the following clubs: California Scholastic Federation, Circle of Friends, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Leadership. She and Nina see a lot of each other! Her service to the community includes cleaning and maintenance at her church and working at the craft fair at Michelson and Hazel Fischer. Jamee plans to attend Westmont University in Santa Barbara, where she [will major in] biology and environmental studies. She envisions becoming a marine biologist. And her dream is to own her own boat upon which she will sail and study the seas.” Photo courtesy of Mr. Nanik.

talent

Got talent? Want to do a fun act with your friends? A talent show is the perfect opportunity for students to showcase talents of any kind on a small-scale stage and perform for their friends, classmates, and teachers. Any student can sign up their act and participate in the show, and we are even inviting teachers to perform as well. We will have 3 judges, and there will be first, second, and third-place prizes ranging from money to gift cards. We will be holding the show during Pond on February 28 in the theater, so all students have the opportunity to not only perform but also come and watch others perform. We want to create something for students to look forward to during February, and with so few events going on, we think this is the perfect opportunity to create a fun and simple event.

A talent show has not been done at Bret Harte for a very long time, if at all, and we think this event is something that people will really look forward to. We hope that students participating will not only have fun, but also gain confidence in themselves and know their worth for being able to perform.

‘Everyone has talent. What's rare is the courage to follow it to the dark places where it leads.' ― Erica Jong.”
