Congratulations to the Students of the Month for February, Gabriel Forjan and Shawna Truelock, who were honored at the Angels-Murphys Rotary luncheon yesterday Thursday, February 5 in Murphys. The following information was shared about both students.
Gabe Forjan: “Gabe has been an incredibly reliable mentor and community member to the Bret Harte campus over the last two years leading with heart and courage, setting high standards for himself, while trying to supporting his peers and mentees. He's dabbled in many things at Bret Harte including sports, stage-managing music productions, Friday Night Live, Interact, Academic Decathlon, and math tutoring, as well as founder of the American Sign Language club.
Gabe’s top college target is MIT where he would major aeronautic engineering. His dream follow-up is be involved with spacecraft design or being an astronaut.”
Shawna Truelock: “Shawna has been described as one of the most driven and hardworking students at Bret Harte. She attacks every day with a can-do attitude and has become a true role model for younger students to look up to. She has logged over 100 community service hours helping organizations around Calaveras County. She is truly humble and deserves a recognition such as this.
A long-time leader in FFA, she has served as a Chapter officer, and has participated in the livestock judging team, showcased livestock across the west coast, and has mentored younger students in this field. Within the community, Shawna has volunteered at the 4 Paws veterinary hospital and at the construction of the Christmas program at Libertas.
Shawna has been accepted at Oklahoma State University (Go Cowboys!) where she will major in animal science pre-vet program. She has already been accepted to the school’s honors program. After graduation, Shawna plans to focus on large animal veterinary services.”
