Congratulations to the Students of the Month for January, Jakob Bouma and Ella Becker, who were honored at the Angels-Murphys Rotary luncheon on January 16th in Murphys. The following information was shared about Jakob and Ella.
Jakob Bouma: "Jakob is the kind of student whose quiet presence speaks volumes—while he doesn’t seek attention, his absence would certainly be felt. He has proudly represented Bret Harte in basketball, golf, and as a key contributor to a championship water polo team. This spring, Jakob will balance multiple events on the track team. Beyond athletics, Jakob is involved in the California Scholastic Federation, FFA, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He has also dedicated many summer hours volunteering at the Bret Harte basketball clinic, teaching younger athletes. Jakob has been at the top of his class for a few years, with a GPA over a 4.1 and applied to Clemson University as an early decision candidate, which is a very competitive pool of applicants, and was accepted! He plans to major in agricultural mechanization for business. His goal is to design innovative farm equipment, making a meaningful impact in the agricultural industry. His self-reliance is evident in his daily routines—starting each day with his own cooking, a skill that will serve him well beyond the dorms in college. Whether working independently or as part of a team, Jakob brings quiet confidence and steady leadership."
Ella Becker: "Ella thrives on involvement and leadership, always eager to take on more. She competes fiercely on both the soccer and track teams and actively participates in FFA, 4H, the California Scholastic Federation, Academic Decathlon, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Leadership, Renaissance, and currently serves as senior class treasurer. She was also honored to represent Bret Harte at Girls State, where a highly selective group of students spend a week on a college campus, learning about citizenship, the political process, leadership skills, and participate in mock government through legislative sessions and elections. In the community, Ella contributes to events like the Murphy’s Christmas Street Faire, the Copper Town Square Tree Cutting, the BOAC food drive, BOAC landscaping and painting projects, and has provided culinary service at private events. Ella’s dream schools include UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly Pomona, where she plans to major in Architecture or Interior Design. She aspires to build a career in architecture or creative design spaces, blending innovation with functionality."
